August 31st, 2010

Today, we reviewed scatter plots and began our baseball project.  Students need to make sure they order their data and understand mean, median, and mode.  If you don't understand these terms, it will be devastating on the final.  I can't stress enough how important it is to ask questions and put forth your best effort.  Some of you are rushing through the problems and ignoring important steps.  The quiz is Friday, as well, as the final.  Progress reports come out next week.  You have no homework tonight, except to study your vocabulary terms.

August 23rd, 2010

We took our quiz and test Friday.  Turn in your "Why do weeping willows weep?" homework tomorrow for a late grade if you didn't turn it in today.  The study guide should have been turned in today, as well.  We went over the test and quiz.  If you didn't pass the test, you are to have the test signed by your parent.  This Thursday you can come to tutoring in my room and correct your test for additional points.  Make sure you have a ride to pick you up by 4:30.
Today, we reviewed mean, median, mode, and range.  We learned how to compare sets of data by making stem-and-leaf plots.  We also learned how to find the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quartiles and worked on the performance task titled, "The Joy of Burgers".

Very Important Date

We have a vocabulary quiz on Friday, August 20th.  We also have a test that day.
Friday is also picture day.

August 17th, 2010

Today in math class we looked at measures of center.  More specifically, we worked on problems involving mean.  The students had to look at data on a graph and find the mean or solve for things using the algorithim (mean equation).  The lesson was 2.1 and the ACE (homework) problems were on pg.44 #1 and #2.  This is a longer lesson and students may finish the two homework questions in class tomorrow.  Some students have not turned in p.156 which was homework assigned over the week-end.

August 16th, 2010

We checked to make sure our divisions were made in our binder.  We worked on warm-up #7 and reviewed the homework from ACE.  I collected the homework sheet given on Friday. (p156)  It reinforced the lessons of last week.  We finished investigation #1 on variability today.  I have given a list of the vocabulary words for Friday's quiz.  Their homework tonight is to study the words.  A parent letter was also passed out to give to their parents/guardians.

Vocabulary Quiz

I passed out your first words and definitions to memorize for the vocabulary quiz on Friday, August 20th.  We reviewed bar graphs and looked at the variability of several bags of M&M's.  We are learning how to change a fraction to a percent with data given in a table.  After we complete our bar graphs, we are beginning to learn how to describe the data in specific details.  The ACE homework is on pgs. 16 and 21 (problems 1,2,14, and 15).  It is due tomorrow, August 13th.

First Day of School

Hello!  We have had a few forms passed out in homeroom.  The lunch, health, SIC, and compact forms need to be signed and returned before a locker is issued.  Lockers are $5.00 and will be issued beginning Tuesday.  The parent signed syllabus for Math is the only homework you will have this week.  Your information page will need a picture and can be turned in any time this week.  If you can't find a picture, you may draw one.  The schedule is a little stressful the first few days, but you will catch on quickly.  I have a smart group of students and look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
