The students are solving linear equations. We are working on lesson 3.5 in the "moving straight ahead" book. We are reviewing old concepts for the CRCT test. We have a quiz tomorrow.

We are currently working on lessons 3.2, 3.3,3.4, and 3.5 this week. We have a quiz on Friday over investigation 2. I regret to inform you that the students need to bring their own calculator to school for their math assignments. The calculators I provide have been abused (batteries taken out, dropped, tossed) and three cannot be used. I have never had this happen and I don't have any calculators to replace the missing ones. Thank you.

There is ACE homework this week-end. The students had to write it down in their agenda before they left my room.
We are working on:
We are working on:
• Algebraic expressions
• Linear equations in one
variable
• Relationships between two
variables
February 14th, 2010
This week we will be covering new investigations 1.3, 1.4, 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3 in "Moving Straight Ahead". We will also be reviewing concepts from the beginning of the year using our CRCT Coach book.
KEY STANDARDS:
Vocabulary Words:
linear relationship- relationships that are represented by straight lines on a graph
independent variable- located on the y-axis, time is the independent variable in the distant/time graph
dependent variable- located on the x-axis, distance is dependent on time, so it's the dependent variable
x-intercept the point where the graph of an equation intersects the x-axis
y-intercept- the point where the line crosses the y-axis, or when x=0
coefficient- the number that multiplies a variable in an equation
properties of equality- to maintain an equality, you can add, subtract, multiply, or divide both sides of the
equality by the same number
point of intersection- where two lines intersect on a graph
slope- steepness of a line is the ratio rise to run, or vertical change to horizontal change
Vocabulary test on Friday.
There will be a project next week.
KEY STANDARDS:
M7A3. Students will understand relationships between two variables. a. Plot points on a coordinate plane.
b. Represent, describe, and analyze relations from tables, graphs, and formulas. c. Describe how change in one variable affects the other variable.
d. Describe patterns in the graphs of proportional relationships, both direct (y=kx) and inverse (y=k/x)

The students worked on investigation 4.3
Homework: ACE 6-14
Please check out my web site.
You can go to the Woodland web site and go to 7th grade. Then, click on Timmerman's team (paw print). Click on my name and it will take you to my web page.
I have added useful sites that you can use. I'm also looking at using the calendar instead of the blog for next year. Please let me know what you think.
The 7th grade math site has changed. If you need the textbook online, you can get it on Mrs. Garlin's web site until I can get it on mine.

I was absent on Monday and had a substitute. He had taught the same lesson on Friday for another math teacher, so it worked out well. The students worked on investigation 1.3 and a practice worksheet on coordinate graphing.
Feb.3rd, 2011
We are finishing our unit with investigations 4.2 and 4.3 Friday.
I just received my classroom computer after being without it for a week. I will have more grades to put in the computer.
HW- ACE problems #18-#23 (They are in the ACE section after investigation 4)
We will have a unit test Tuesday, Feb.8th.
Parent teacher conferences are Tuesday, Feb. 8th.
What's next? Unit 6 - Moving Straight Ahead (4 weeks)
