Monday will be here soon.  As a reminder, we are working on symmetry and have a new book, Kaleidoscopes, Hubcaps, and Mirrors.  You were given a book and it is online.

We are studying two types of symmetry.  We have already studied line of symmetry or reflection symmetry.  Monday, we will begin looking at rotation symmetry.

We looked at our tests from Tuesday and went over problems.
We began working in our new Kalaiedoscope books.  It is available online at the 7th grade math school website.

The students worked on investigation 2.1 and learned new terms including:  line of reflection, line of symmetry, transformation, and reflection symmetry.

Homework:  If you didn't finish lesson 2.1, you need to finish it at home.  It will be due tomorrow.

We are previewing our new unit in Geometry.  The next two weeks, we'll be working on constructions.  You may peek at the topic with this website:  http://whistleralley.com/construction/reference.htm

It is very important that you bring a ruler to class everyday the next two weeks.  We will use it for the straightedge and I will provide the compasses.

*I started out with a class set of rulers and now I only have 16.  The plastic ones break easily, especially when the student starts bending it.  The best rulers are the thick plastic ones that will not break when it is bent.  Any donations of rulers is greatly appreciated!!

November 5th

We reviewed with a jeopardy game with topics such as:  vocabulary, distributive property, relationship, equations, and expressions.  I answered any questions that they had on the review packet.  The final was taken the last half of class.

We will have a vocabulary quiz on Friday, October 29th.  The students spent time in class today making flashcards and began studying the new words with a "study buddy". 

We have a notebook check and I passed out the requirement sheet for them to use. 

We began class with a written reflection about data and variables in tables, graphs, and narrative writing.  The guiding questions are on page 29.
Lastly, we started working on a review packet.

We had a peer review over 1.1 and 1.2.  The students had a chance to polish it up before turning it in for a grade.  We worked on investigation 1.3 in the variables and patterns blue book.

Monday plans

I am going to show a couple examples of real life problems on united streaming before the students finish their project. The students will present their project on Tuesday, unless their group is ready to go on Monday. They have the rubric and should be working on parts of it this week-end. I am excited to see the presentations because I have seen many great ideas brewing and forming on posters the last two days.

Reminder-I have tutoring on Wednesday and Thursday morning this week.

The project is due on Monday; however; they will have 45 minutes to put it together with their partner and prepare to present it.  New connection schedules will come out next Monday.  Report cards will come home October 13th.  Please sign it and have your student return it by Friday.  Have a great week-end!

The homework is to work on your poster project.  Make sure you have the notes ready for the real-life problems and the properties.

Integer Project Due Monday

Today, we began our culminating project.  I made an example for the students to look at and we went over the directions completely.  The students picked a partner or chose to work alone.  We will spend 100 minutes on the project tomorrow plus the week-end and 50 minutes Monday.

Many good ideas and themes were created for the section of the poster that requires three real-life problems using rational numbers.  Ideas ranged from professional golf tournaments to restaurant entrepreneurship to best phone plans.

I am excited to see the finished product.  If your child needs poster paper, parents can now get poster paper from our library.

Today, we went over the final and answered questions to problems that students missed.  Notebooks will be checked today and Thursday.

Today, we reviewed for the final and took the final.  I will have the finals graded and we will go over the problems tomorrow.  Tomorrow, we begin the poster project.  I will hand out directions plus the rubric for scoring the project.

*The notebook check was postponed until tomorrow.  I gave out the slips for checking off the items, so you can use it to organize your binder if you want to check and make sure it is organized correctly.  If you already did that, you have no homework.

We reviewed for the math final that the students will take tomorrow.  We went over a checklist of what is required in the notebook check tomorrow.  The students were given a study guide and we went over the problems.  We practiced several problems for each concept in the unit.  We will go over more problems and answer any questions students have at the beginning of class tomorrow.

*We will begin the poster project on Wednesday.

*My new homework policy will begin Monday, October 9th.  I will not accept late work unless there is an absence or the student gives me two cats cash for a late homework pass.  It is important that students are responsible for getting their work in on time.  If you have any questions about the new policy, please contact me.  Thank you.

*Today, we took the vocabulary quiz and summarized lessons of the week with some visual aids.
(Tim and Moby clips on associative, distributive, and commutative properties)

 The students went over a graded sheet on distributive property and asked any questions they needed to in order to understand the problems they missed.  We worked on distributive property problem sheet 1-4.  We also talked about "order of operations".  (Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally)

**Homework is to make sure you have completed Distributive handout 1-4, plus any corrections on handout 1-7.  There are a handful of students who have not turned in investigation 3.3 and 4.3.  Those were done in class earlier this week.  For those that didn't finish, you had an extra day to turn it in.

*Look Ahead:  


The students will continue to review the properties and combining "like terms" on Monday.  We will also look at some more translation problems.  Many students remember translation from last year.  There will be a study guide for the final given on Monday.  They can take it home to study for the final on Tuesday.  We will go over the answers.

*What's Next?


After the final Tuesday, they will have a culminating activity that comprises of a group poster project.  They will have time to work on this in class Wednesday and Thursday.  It counts as a test grade.

Lesson Plan: 
We are taking notes on addition and multiplication properties. There are two handouts for practice on these properties.  Homework will be collected on "distributive property" handout.  You have until Friday to finish the additional worksheets pgs. 73-74.  I am out this morning, but will be back this afternoon.

I collected pgs.70-71 and investigation 4.3 at the beginning of class.  We reviewed multiplication and division of fractions.  Several students forgot how to do this from last year.  (cross multiplication, reciprocal, changing mixed numeral to improper fraction)  We also worked on a distributive property handout.  We discussed "combining like terms".  Please work on these handouts.  Multiplication and division of fractions is something you should already know.  Make vocabulary flashcards!  Quiz Friday!

We worked on investigation 4.3.  If students didn't finish, it is due tomorrow.  Homework is to work on pages 70-71 for review of integer addition and subtraction.  We took notes and the students wrote several examples using the distributive property.

Today, we worked on investigation 3.3 problems.  The students were to copy the definitions for the vocabulary quiz on Friday, October 1st.  We had ACE homework on pg.53, #21 and #23.  Also, page 58, #34 and #35. 
We went over the quiz and integer test from Friday.  Some students are not studying for the vocabulary quizzes and it is lowering their grade.  Make sure you make flashcards for extra credit.  It will also help you learn the words.

Next week, we will be learning about "combining like terms", "distributive property", and "translation". You will have a notebook check and vocabulary quiz.

In two weeks, you will have your unit final and poster project.

Reminder:  Your book is online.  It is on the W.M.S. website.  Also, my tutoring is only on Thursdays, from 7:30-8:00 a.m.  I have car rider duty the next 5 weeks and won't be able to tutor in the afternoons.

If you have the "accentuate the negative" book at home, please bring it to school.  I only have a class set and we didn't have enough books for my Math 3 class.  Today, we played a multiplying rational number game.  We had a tournament.  The homework for investigation 3.4 is to complete one side of the multiplying integer handout.  For review, you have a practice sheet named, "unit test".  Finish this for homework if you did not turn it in.

We finished the benchmark test.  We worked on investigation 3.1, which is multiplying rational numbers.  Students should have turned in investigation 2.5 and creature coordinate, which was due yesterday.  Finish 3.1 for homework if you didn't finish it in class.  Homework is ACE p.50,51 (#1-#5)

We reviewed our addition and subtraction rules.  Today, we had a partner quiz for a daily grade.  I had a mini conference with some of you on your assignments.  I introduced integer jeopardy with a team competition.  We looked at  how to access their book online and how to find my web page.  Now, you can show your parents how to navigate to the online textbook, my web page, and the integer games.  Homework is the vampire handout. Today, we reviewed addition and subtraction of integers with handouts.  I handed out "Integer Notes" and specifically asked for students to keep it in their math binder for the entire year as a reference.  We worked on the "Dallas Rancher" handout.  It was graded and handed back for corrections.  Students had individual conferences with me and should know what their grade is currently and how to improve in math. Homework is to study your vocabulary words and to finish the handout given in class.

 I had morning and evening tutoring today.  Next week, we will begin morning tutoring only.  It will be on Thursdays from 7:30-8:00 a.m.

How do we add integers?  We have looked at using a number line and chips to help calculate adding integers.  Today, we looked to see if there is an algorithm with adding integers.

Our homework is to finish the investigation, if you did not finish in class.  Also, ACE homework is to do page 32, 1-3 and work on problem #30 and #37.  These assignments are due at the beginning of class Tuesday.

Today we are doing warm-up #23.  You can clean your notebook completely out, except for investigation 1.1,1.2  (math fever, sauna) ,  integer addition handout, and skill 1 handout.

We are working on lesson 1.4 in accentuate the negative workbook.

The homework is to complete ACE problems on pg.16, 1-30.  Students have 30 minutes in class to finish last night's homework,  pgs. 59,60,and 61 or they can begin their week-end homework.  Week-end homework is due Monday at the BEGINNING of class.  Week-end homework won't be accepted afterwards, unless you were absent.  You will need the workbook for this homework.  Make sure to bring it back Monday. 

September 9th

We are still working on integer addition and subtraction.  Students have a hard time with this.  They need to sketch the number line so they know positive goes in to the right on the number line,  negavtive goes to the left..etc...
We are working with chips today and Friday to try to understand the concept with manipulatives.  If you don't understand it at first, don't give up!
Homework is to finish the review worksheet pages 59, 60, and 61. 
I had 8 at tutoring last night!  They will tell you it is helping them understand the concepts and helping their grade!
Next week, my tutoring will change to the morning due to my car rider duty for the next 5 weeks.  I will tutor from 7:30-8:00, Thursday a.m.

We have progress reports coming out today.  Tomorrow is the last day I will take the baseball project.  It was due on Friday.  We had a notebook check today.  I am looking for correct warm-ups, the baseball project and Investigations 3.0-3.5.  Today, we are working on investigation 1.2, A-F.  The homework is to finish the integer addition handout.
Any donated baked goods for the math department fundraiser is greatly appreciated!  We will continue it through Friday.  Drop them off by my classroom during homeroom if you are bringing something.  Thank you ahead of time for helping our math department get new supplies for students to use.

Today, we reviewed scatter plots and began our baseball project.  Students need to make sure they order their data and understand mean, median, and mode.  If you don't understand these terms, it will be devastating on the final.  I can't stress enough how important it is to ask questions and put forth your best effort.  Some of you are rushing through the problems and ignoring important steps.  The quiz is Friday, as well, as the final.  Progress reports come out next week.  You have no homework tonight, except to study your vocabulary terms.

Today, we worked on lesson 3.1, (pgs.55-56) ,and wrote a reflection (p.27).  We finished performance task #1 on fast food sandwiches and began performance task#2 on football conferences.

We took our quiz and test Friday.  Turn in your "Why do weeping willows weep?" homework tomorrow for a late grade if you didn't turn it in today.  The study guide should have been turned in today, as well.  We went over the test and quiz.  If you didn't pass the test, you are to have the test signed by your parent.  This Thursday you can come to tutoring in my room and correct your test for additional points.  Make sure you have a ride to pick you up by 4:30.
Today, we reviewed mean, median, mode, and range.  We learned how to compare sets of data by making stem-and-leaf plots.  We also learned how to find the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quartiles and worked on the performance task titled, "The Joy of Burgers".

Very Important Date

We have a vocabulary quiz on Friday, August 20th.  We also have a test that day.

Today in math class we looked at measures of center.  More specifically, we worked on problems involving mean.  The students had to look at data on a graph and find the mean or solve for things using the algorithim (mean equation).  The lesson was 2.1 and the ACE (homework) problems were on pg.44 #1 and #2.  This is a longer lesson and students may finish the two homework questions in class tomorrow.  Some students have not turned in p.156 which was homework assigned over the week-end.

We checked to make sure our divisions were made in our binder.  We worked on warm-up #7 and reviewed the homework from ACE.  I collected the homework sheet given on Friday. (p156)  It reinforced the lessons of last week.  We finished investigation #1 on variability today.  I have given a list of the vocabulary words for Friday's quiz.  Their homework tonight is to study the words.  A parent letter was also passed out to give to their parents/guardians.

Vocabulary Quiz

I passed out your first words and definitions to memorize for the vocabulary quiz on Friday, August 20th.  We reviewed bar graphs and looked at the variability of several bags of M&M's.  We are learning how to change a fraction to a percent with data given in a table.  After we complete our bar graphs, we are beginning to learn how to describe the data in specific details.  The ACE homework is on pgs. 16 and 21 (problems 1,2,14, and 15).  It is due tomorrow, August 13th.

First Day of School

     Hello!  We have had a few forms passed out in homeroom.  The lunch, health, SIC, and compact forms need to be signed and returned before a locker is issued.  Lockers are $5.00 and will be issued beginning Tuesday.  The parent signed syllabus for Math is the only homework you will have this week.  Your information page will need a picture and can be turned in any time this week.  If you can't find a picture, you may draw one.  The schedule is a little stressful the first few days, but you will catch on quickly.  I have a smart group of students and look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
