Lesson Plan:
We are taking notes on addition and multiplication properties. There are two handouts for practice on these properties.  Homework will be collected on "distributive property" handout.  You have until Friday to finish the additional worksheets pgs. 73-74.  I am out this morning, but will be back this afternoon.

September 29th, 2010

*Reminder:  I cannot tutor Thursday morning this week.  I can tutor Friday morning.  Please let me know if you are coming.

I collected pgs.70-71 and investigation 4.3 at the beginning of class.  We reviewed multiplication and division of fractions.  Several students forgot how to do this from last year.  (cross multiplication, reciprocal, changing mixed numeral to improper fraction)  We also worked on a distributive property handout.  We discussed "combining like terms".  Please work on these handouts.  Multiplication and division of fractions is something you should already know.  Make vocabulary flashcards!  Quiz Friday!

September 28th, 2010

We worked on investigation 4.3.  If students didn't finish, it is due tomorrow.  Homework is to work on pages 70-71 for review of integer addition and subtraction.  We took notes and the students wrote several examples using the distributive property.

September 27th, 2010

Today, we worked on investigation 3.3 problems.  The students were to copy the definitions for the vocabulary quiz on Friday, October 1st.  We had ACE homework on pg.53, #21 and #23.  Also, page 58, #34 and #35.
We went over the quiz and integer test from Friday.  Some students are not studying for the vocabulary quizzes and it is lowering their grade.  Make sure you make flashcards for extra credit.  It will also help you learn the words.

September 24th, 2010

We had a vocabulary quiz and integer test.  The homework is to finish "bowser" using your coordinate graphing skills.

What's Next?

Next week, we will be learning about "combining like terms", "distributive property", and "translation". You will have a notebook check and vocabulary quiz.

In two weeks, you will have your unit final and poster project.

Reminder:  Your book is online.  It is on the W.M.S. website.  Also, my tutoring is only on Thursdays, from 7:30-8:00 a.m.  I have car rider duty the next 5 weeks and won't be able to tutor in the afternoons.

September 23, 2010

If you have the "accentuate the negative" book at home, please bring it to school.  I only have a class set and we didn't have enough books for my Math 3 class.  Today, we played a multiplying rational number game.  We had a tournament.  The homework for investigation 3.4 is to complete one side of the multiplying integer handout.  For review, you have a practice sheet named, "unit test".  Finish this for homework if you did not turn it in.

September 22, 2010

We finished the benchmark test.  We worked on investigation 3.1, which is multiplying rational numbers.  Students should have turned in investigation 2.5 and creature coordinate, which was due yesterday.  Finish 3.1 for homework if you didn't finish it in class.  Homework is ACE p.50,51 (#1-#5)

September 21, 2010

I gave the benchmark tests.  No homework.

September 20th, 2010

Today, we finished coordinate graphing with investigation 2.5.  The homework is to finish creature coordinates.  Study your vocabulary words for the test Friday.  Don't lose you integer notes.  They need to be placed in the front of your math binder for the entire year.  We will use them the next few days.

September 17th, 2010

We reviewed our addition and subtraction rules.  Today, we had a partner quiz for a daily grade.  I had a mini conference with some of you on your assignments.  I introduced integer jeopardy with a team competition.  We looked at  how to access their book online and how to find my web page.  Now, you can show your parents how to navigate to the online textbook, my web page, and the integer games.  Homework is the vampire handout. (yes, both sides)

September 16th, 2010

Today, we reviewed addition and subtraction of integers with handouts.  I handed out "Integer Notes" and specifically asked for students to keep it in their math binder for the entire year as a reference.  We worked on the "Dallas Rancher" handout.  It was graded and handed back for corrections.  Students had individual conferences with me and should know what their grade is currently and how to improve in math. Homework is to study your vocabulary words and to finish the handout given in class.

I had morning and evening tutoring today.  Next week, we will begin morning tutoring only.  It will be on Thursdays from 7:30-8:00 a.m.

September 15th, 2010

We had warm-up #26 today.  We finished lesson 2.2 on the subtraction of integers.  If you didn't finish the assignment in class, finish it tonight and bring it to class tomorrow.  We also had a handout to practice addition and subtraction.  Don't forget  to use the rules for addition and use KFC for subtraction.  No homework tonight, except to study your vocabulary words.

September 14th, 2010

I have warm-up #25 for today.  We are continuing to add integers and are going to learn how to subtract integers in lesson 2.2.  There is a "sum up" handout.  Homework is ACE, p.32, 4-6.

Remember:          Addition
same + signs =keep the sign
different signs= find the difference and take the highest digit's sign

***Progress reports were due signed by a parent yesterday.

September 13th, 2010

How do we add integers?  We have looked at using a number line and chips to help calculate adding integers.  Today, we looked to see if there is an algorithm with adding integers.
same + signs = keep the sign

We worked on investigation 2.1 problems, A-D
Our homework is to finish the investigation, if you did not finish in class.  Also, ACE homework is to do page 32, 1-3 and work on problem #30 and #37.  These assignments are due at the beginning of class Tuesday.

Next Vocabulary Quiz September 24th

September 10th

Today we are doing warm-up #23.  You can clean your notebook completely out, except for investigation 1.1,1.2  (math fever, sauna) ,  integer addition handout, and skill 1 handout.

We are working on lesson 1.4 in accentuate the negative workbook.

The homework is to complete ACE problems on pg.16, 1-30.  Students have 30 minutes in class to finish last night's homework,  pgs. 59,60,and 61 or they can begin their week-end homework.  Week-end homework is due Monday at the BEGINNING of class.  Week-end homework won't be accepted afterwards, unless you were absent.  You will need the workbook for this homework.  Make sure to bring it back Monday.

September 9th

We are still working on integer addition and subtraction.  Students have a hard time with this.  They need to sketch the number line so they know positive goes in to the right on the number line,  negavtive goes to the left..etc...
We are working with chips today and Friday to try to understand the concept with manipulatives.  If you don't understand it at first, don't give up!
Homework is to finish the review worksheet pages 59, 60, and 61.
I had 8 at tutoring last night!  They will tell you it is helping them understand the concepts and helping their grade!
Next week, my tutoring will change to the morning due to my car rider duty for the next 5 weeks.  I will tutor from 7:30-8:00, Thursday a.m.

September 8th, 2010

We have progress reports coming out today.  Tomorrow is the last day I will take the baseball project.  It was due on Friday.  We had a notebook check today.  I am looking for correct warm-ups, the baseball project and Investigations 3.0-3.5.  Today, we are working on investigation 1.2, A-F.  The homework is to finish the integer addition handout.
Any donated baked goods for the math department fundraiser is greatly appreciated!  We will continue it through Friday.  Drop them off by my classroom during homeroom if you are bringing something.  Thank you ahead of time for helping our math department get new supplies for students to use.
