We are finishing up the standard M7G4 a&b this week.  We will also be reviewing for the CRCT until Spring Break.

We have a test over slices and shadows on Tuesday, March 15th.  The vocabulary test is on this Friday, March 18th.  Both of these grades will be on the last 9-week grading period.

*There is an extra credit project available this last 9-week grading period.  If your interested, you need to let me know by Wednesday, March 16th.  It will completed at home.

March 8th, 2011

I sent an overview of unit 7 in the form of a letter by Georgia Tech to the students yesterday.  I told them to show their parents.  It has useful vocabulary, examples of concepts they will be working on, and the standards M7G4 a & b listed.
We are reviewing 3-D solids and making models of cross sections.  We will also be looking at transformations of solids and shadows this week.  All assignments are to be finished in class this week.

This is finals week.  The students already took their math finals.  They will not have math homework this week, so they can study for other exams.

*I have an extra credit project that the students can do at home.  I will only give it to students who request it.  I will give them directions to the assignment and the grade will be put on the next 9 weeks.

week of February 28th

We will be working on investigation 3.5 and a short project this week. The unit final review is Thursday and the Final is March 4th.

The project will begin today and will be due at the end of the day on March 2nd. It is an in class assignment. We will also be reviewing in the CRCT coach book this week. We are still in the same standard- M7A2 d.
They take notes on variations this week and watch a short video with examples.

Next week, we will begin working on standards: M7G4 a, b.
These standards will be part of our new unit next week. We don’t use a book for this unit. We use resources on a shared drive and handouts that I receive from the math department head.

February 24th, 2010

The students are solving linear equations.  We are working on lesson 3.5 in the "moving straight ahead" book.  We are reviewing old concepts for the CRCT test.  We have a quiz tomorrow.

HW- any unfinished work, Skill 5 handout

February 23rd, 2010

We are currently working on lessons 3.2, 3.3,3.4, and 3.5 this week.  We have a quiz on Friday over investigation 2.  I regret to inform you that the students need to bring their own calculator to school for their math assignments.  The calculators I provide have been abused (batteries taken out, dropped, tossed)  and three cannot be used.  I have never had this happen and I don't have any calculators to replace the missing ones.  Thank you.

February 11th, 2010

There is ACE homework this week-end.  The students had to write it down in their agenda before they left my room.
We are working on:

Algebraic expressions
Linear equations in one
variable
Relationships between two
variables

February 14th, 2010

This week we will be covering new investigations 1.3, 1.4, 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3 in "Moving Straight Ahead".  We will also be reviewing concepts from the beginning of the year using our CRCT Coach book.
  KEY STANDARDS:
M7A3. Students will understand relationships between two variables.                                                                                                                 a. Plot points on a coordinate plane.
b. Represent, describe, and analyze relations from tables, graphs, and formulas.                                                                                              c. Describe how change in one variable affects the other variable.
d. Describe patterns in the graphs of proportional relationships, both direct (y=kx) and inverse (y=k/x)

Vocabulary Words:
linear relationship-      relationships that are represented by straight lines on a graph
independent variable- located on the y-axis, time is the independent variable in the distant/time graph
dependent variable-    located on the x-axis, distance is dependent on time, so it's the dependent variable
x-intercept                   the point where the graph of an equation intersects the x-axis
y-intercept-                  the point where the line crosses the y-axis, or when x=0
coefficient-                  the number that multiplies a variable in an equation
properties of equality- to maintain an equality, you can add, subtract, multiply, or divide both sides of the
                                         equality by the same number
point of intersection-  where two lines intersect on a graph
slope-                          steepness of a line is the ratio rise to run, or vertical change to horizontal change
Vocabulary test on Friday.
There will be a project next week.

Feb. 4th, 2011

The students worked on investigation 4.3
Homework:  ACE 6-14

Please check out my web site.
You can go to the Woodland web site and go to 7th grade.  Then, click on Timmerman's team (paw print). Click on my name and it will take you to my web page.

I have added useful sites that you can use.  I'm also looking at using the calendar instead of the blog for next year.  Please let me know what you think.

The 7th grade math site has changed. If you need the textbook online, you can get it on Mrs. Garlin's web site until I can get it on mine.

Jan.31, 2011

I was absent on Monday and had a substitute.  He had taught the same lesson on Friday for another math teacher, so it worked out well.  The students worked on investigation 1.3 and a practice worksheet on coordinate graphing.

Feb.3rd, 2011

We are finishing our unit with investigations 4.2 and 4.3 Friday.
I just received my classroom computer after being without it for a week.  I will have more grades to put in the computer.

HW-  ACE problems #18-#23 (They are in the ACE section after investigation 4)

We will have a unit test Tuesday, Feb.8th.

Parent teacher conferences are Tuesday, Feb. 8th.

What's next?   Unit 6 - Moving Straight Ahead (4 weeks)

Wednesday, February 2, 2011

February 2nd, 2011

We are working on lessons 1.3,3.1,3.2,3.3,4.1, and 4.2 this week.

The homework tonight is to finish the ACE problems #24-#26, and #34.  These problems are on pages 44-46 in the comparing and scaling workbook.

We have a unit test on Tuesday, February 8th.  There will be a study guide given on Monday during class.

January 28th, 2011

We are in a new book, comparing and scaling.  We worked on lessons 1.1 and 1.2.
No homework, unless you have missing assignments from this week.  I will not accept the missing assignments after Tuesday of next week.

January 27th, 2011

We worked on lessons 5.2 and 5.3.  The homework packet is due tomorrow.  We we also have the notebook check over the investigations listed on the board.

I still don't have a computer in the classroom, so e-mail is slow going.

Monday, January 24, 2011

January 24th, 2011

Today, we finished investigation 4.1 and 4.2. These lessons were fairly simple using ratios and scale factor to determine the similarity of shapes.  The students took a vocabulary quiz and most of them did very well.  There is a notebook check on Friday, January 28th.

The homework is to finish the workbook pages 31-34.

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

January 19th, 2011

My computer is down until the computer technician can work on it.  I cannot get into Crosspointe until then.

The students worked on an activity in class.  It is due tomorrow.  It is the "Wump" activity.  They are plotting 5 characters on grids and describing their similarities and non-similarities using the rules provided in the table.  The directions are on pages 22 and 23 in the "Stretching and Shrinking" workbook.  This activity supports the standard M7G3a,b.

Homework:  Finish the "Wump" activity.

Our lessons will be lesson 1.3, 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 next week.

Have a safe school break today!

No School Today!

Well, we worked on check 1 Friday.  It is a check to see how well the student understood Investigation 1.  The book assumes the students remember area and perimeter formulas for polygons.  They learned the formulas in 6th grade.  I will give formal notes the day we return.

We reviewed multiplying decimals.  Students also had a review on changing percent to decimal, so they could calculate percents.  All of these exercises were reviewing concepts learned last year.

After the review, we used the formulas to compare two figures and discussed their similarities.

Stay warm!

January 6th, 2011

We worked on lessons 1.2 (without rubber bands).  One class finished early and they were able to see how rubber bands can be used to enlarge an image.  I can show you at tutoring, if you come on Tuesday morning.  We reviewed coordinate graphing.

ALL of your ACE homework is due tomorrow.

Wednesday, January 5, 2011
